Lillian accepts Matt's invitation to Emerald Place after he promises an apology. During the meal Matt slips something into her cup; moments later men burst in, cite a law that adulterous wives must be drowned, and accuse her of cheating. Jerome rushes back, realizing it was a trap, but arrives as Lillian is dragged and humiliated while Matt declares she broke their vows. Lillian pleads she was drugged and framed. The episode ends with the crowd's verdict: "According to the law, you must be drowned," leaving her fate unresolved.
