In the hospital, Bree asks when she'll meet her father while her mother, Ms. Kayla Jayne, frets over worsening lung problems and blames her heart disease. Kayla lands a surprise offer from VM Group: lead engineer with a three million annual salary. She breathes relief, "Bree's treatment can be covered now." At the company ceremony VM's chairman, Mr. Blake, appears and confronts her, saying, "Did you ever imagine this day would come when you left me for money?" The job victory is undercut by his accusation, leaving Kayla's new role and reputation unresolved.
