Kayla Jayne scrapes by ghostwriting to pay for her daughter's congenital heart surgery. When she finally lands steady work, her new boss is Don Blake, her ex. Convinced Kayla left him for money years ago, Don uses his wealth to humiliate her. For her child’s sake Kayla endures while trying to tell Don the truth, but Heidi Presland sabotages every attempt. A late-night bartending shift turns violent; Don rushes in to save Kayla and their relationship begins to thaw. Heidi then escalates, kidnapping the child as leverage. Don outmaneuvers Heidi, rescues their daughter, severs ties with his mother and proposes, offering Kayla and their child a chance at a whole family.
