A tense exchange opens when Capt. Nash asks if the woman is short on cash; she denies it then admits, "I've been keeping something from you." He warns her not to disfigure her face and playfully orders, "Drop the act. Kiss it," before she goes to shower. Afterward he blow-dries her hair and reveals he used to do that for his sister because she had headaches. He admits he couldn't support her and she was adopted. Nash says he'll give her a chance, but the core secret and his promise remain unresolved.
