At a social gathering Ms. Burke abruptly leaves claiming illness, sparking Mr. Shelton's insistence and teasing from others. Shelton vows he'll wait and pursue her when she can accept him, but Burke admits she can't get over Jacob and pushes him away. Capt. Nash watches, briefly accused of jealousy as Shelton departs.
